Yes, puzzler, I agree. Whitman’s canny description of this measure of our “human-ness” and our choice to delight in it is probably one of the best lines in American Poetry.

And HDB…I didn’t know he’d only had six years of education. We have zillions of high school and college graduates who can’t even put one literate sentence together. Amazing.
